Tweet a Twitter Journal…

Sue Wagner says, “This might be fun for people to try. Would make a good writing prompt for fiction or memoir.”

Can your writing go #viral? Tiny Text is looking for #ViralLit to share with the world!

Tiny Text is a Twitter journal (@Tiny_Text) that publishes #LittleLit: Twitter-length fiction and memoir, as well as serials. What is Twitter-length? 140 characters or less—spaces count! Each section of a serial should adhere to that, as well as be able to stand on its own. We’re looking for stories that amaze us by how much can fit into such a small space.

Please follow us on Twitter for weekly writing prompts and send up to three stories or memoirs at a time (including your name and Twitter handle) via a Twitter direct message or via email to teeny.tiny.textATgmail.com

We publish one piece of Twitter-length prose every other Monday and every publication gets two unique promo Tweets earlier the same day—but we’re hoping to expand that number, so send away! Submissions are eagerly read year-round. Please allow us 4 weeks to get back to you before sending more work or inquiring about the status of your submission.

We at Tiny Text look forward to your words!

Writers Guild Meets Sunday August 21st

Bring your work and join us in the Cultural Center (Red Barn) at Pearl S. Buck’s historic home site, Green Hills Farm, 520 Dublin Road, Perkasie, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm this Sunday, August 21st.

Be sure to make 15 copies of any poem, essay, memoir, fiction or non-fiction selection you’d like to share for comments from our friendly group of writers. We all sometimes struggle to polish our works and invite each other to weigh in with constructive critiques.

We usually limit the reading and discussion of each piece to 15 minutes, so 3 to 4 pages maximum is suggested, though longer pieces can be handed out. Please add your email address to any selection since discussion time is limited, and members can respond later via email.

Don’t forget our deadline for submissions to the Fall Literary Journal has been extended to September 30th. Guidelines for submission can be found here.

Literary Journal Deadline Extended

The editors of the Pearl S. Buck Literary Journal announce an extension to the deadline for our Fall Issue, planned for publication in mid-October. The new deadline is September 30th.

Please visit our Submission Guidelines for instructions on submitting your work.

Mark your calendars, so you don’t miss our August Writers Guild meeting on Sunday, August 21st from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Cultural Center (the red barn) at Green Hills Farm, 520 Dublin Road, Perkasie, PA.

Poets, essayists, fiction, non-fiction and memoir writers are all welcome, regardless of project status.  In the words of our fearless leader, Keep Writing!

The Hook, The Body and The Twist

By Linda Donaldson

July’s Writers Guild meeting this past Sunday was full of shared work and spirited discussion. Anne introduced a guest, Lonnie Barone, author, lecturer and editorial writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, who spoke about blogs and opinion editorials or op-eds.

On Sunday, Lonnie told us his simple 3-step formula: a hook, followed by the body or thesis, and the twist. Start by capturing the reader’s interest, tell the story, and end with something unexpected that will make the reader think. You can find Lonnie’s blog under our Resources heading entitled On Blogs and Op-eds. Continue reading “The Hook, The Body and The Twist”

June 2016 Guild Meeting shared 8 submissions

By Ye Olde Editor,

A sunny day at Green Hills Farm greeted the dozen members of our prolific Writers Guild, who brought eight stories to share! We even received an emailed story from a member who couldn’t attend, but wanted our feedback.

Cindy Louden and I greeted the group and told them that Anne was under the weather, and she would not attend. We reminded everyone to follow our blog, and use the link to submission guidelines for the Fall Issue of the Literary Journal.

Happily for the author, Paul Sullivan is busy promoting his book, The Irishman’s Song. Paul will appear on the radio broadcast of WBCB 1490AM on Saturday, June 25th at noon, during Bristol’s Celtic Days celebration. Tune in to enjoy! Continue reading “June 2016 Guild Meeting shared 8 submissions”

June 19th Writers Guild Meeting

Please join us this coming Sunday, June 19th at 1:30pm for our monthly Writers Guild meeting upstairs in the Cultural Center (the big red barn). We welcome all authors and poets, published or not, to listen, collaborate with each other and learn by sharing.

Bring copies of any work you’d like us to comment on (up to 3 pages), and be sure to include your email address on it. Some of our members prefer to do a slow read and respond with a detailed critique later. Remember, if you don’t have printing capabilities, and need copies made, please be sure to send lindadonaldson@verizon.net a Word file before Saturday.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, but if you can’t make it, look for my recap blog post early next week. Summer has brought beauty to the grounds of Green Hills Farm which boasts many inspirational settings to get your creative juices flowing.

Visit the historic home of Pearl S. Buck, 520 Dublin Road, Perkasie, walk the gardens, check out the Gift Shop or just bring your notebook and find a quiet spot. Keep Writing!

May Writers Guild Meeting Recap

By Linda Donaldson

The turnout of 15 members this month yielded several new members and an abundance of work to discuss – six excerpts were shared!

We introduced new two-sided tent card name signs printed in a large font. Placed on the tables in front of each member, they work better than small name tags in allowing us to all get to know each other better. Your name signs are ready and waiting for the June 19th meeting.

Members were encouraged to register on our blog http://www.psbwritingcenter.org and become a follower in order to be sure to be notified when new posts are added. It only requires creating a free Word Press login with a unique user name and password. Then you won’t miss any of our great content.

Anne Kaler shared information about the books we have shepherded through CreateSpace under the mantle of Writing Center Press. Examples of the four publications that were handed around spanned several genres: essays, memoir, non-fiction and a novel. Continue reading “May Writers Guild Meeting Recap”

A merry dozen members gathered for the April 17th Writers Guild meeting, and celebrated the inaugural issue of the Pearl S. Buck Literary Journal, Spring 2016.

Next meeting is May 15, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.

We began with a discussion of the new blog post of the Literary Journal. Anne K. Kaler and I explained the concept of “following” the blog and encouraged all to become followers and share the blog on their Facebook page.

Anne discussed the term “developmental editing” and its application to one’s own work to help structure and Continue reading “April Guild session celebrates Journal”
